All I Want for Christmas is Fearless Flight
Making your list and checking it twice? Trying to figure out what you’d wish for if the angel from It’s a Wonderful Life confronted you instead of Jimmy Stewart? If you suffer from fear of flying, your Christmas wish list likely includes fearless flight, not silent night.
Well, it won’t take another Miracle on 34th Street for Santa to deliver, Virginia. Oops…I may be mixing my Christmas metaphors, but here’s the real deal: fear of flying can be overcome.
Of course, you have to be willing to work at it. No magical elf delivery will place fearless flight under your tree. However, if you follow a five-step process, you can overcome your fear of flying.
- Admit your fear. This might be hard if you’re a macho guy who thinks that fear of flying doesn't fit with your image. But until you admit you have a problem with flying, you can’t get over it. Kinda like not being able to get over an addiction unless you admit you have a problem.
- Connect with others to share your story. You’ll be surprised how many people have issues with flying. An estimated 60 million people! So if you share your fearful flying stories with others, you’ll be surprised how people will respond to your bad flying stories. So tell people about the time you bolted off the plane just as the door was closing or the time you drove through freezing rain because you didn’t want to fly.
- Educate yourself to demystify flying and learn how incredibly safe it is. Knowledge is a powerful tool. Explore all the information that fearless flight.com has to offer. Sign up for a webinar.
- Learn coping strategies to distract your fear. One of the best coping strategies is the Fearless FlightKit. With its mixture of prose, poetry, and positive affirmations, the Flight Harmonizer CD in the FlightKit is a great tool for distracting you from all those anxious thoughts. Many people won’t leave for the airport without their Flight Harmonizer CD downloaded onto their IPod.
- Practice using your knowledge and skills on a short flight of around an hour’s duration. Get over fear of flying by flying?! Absolutely! This is where overcoming fear of flying stops being like recovery from an addiction. You cannot avoid the problem—as Nike advises, JUST DO IT!
The really cool thing is that the more you fly, the easier flying will get. You will begin to feel amazingly free. Just ask former fearful flyers like Angela. After participating in a fearlessflight.com webinar and a successful flight to Switzerland, Angela emailed us that: “I will probably never love flying, but at least I am not restricted anymore and I got my freedom back.”
So although fearful flyers report that they’ll never likely love to fly, they sure love the places they can go now they're able to fly anywhere they wish. And you won't need Jimmy Stewart’s angel to grant that wish. Just one of the airlines!
